Week 21 PBID Question

It's hard to believe we have already completed 20 weeks of the Picture Book Identification Challenge. TWENTY WEEKS! I'm looking forward to all the questions coming up in the future! How about you?

Before we get to this week's picture and question, let me take a moment to welcome some new visitors. Last week I was in Milwaukee for the Wisconsin State Reading Association's annual convention, and I introduced the #PBIDchallenge to a bunch of teachers. Last week it was FREEZING cold here in Wisconsin, so our picture was a young girl and her father all bundled up to keep warm on a winter day. This week continues the theme of cold weather, only this girl and her grandmother stayed inside during the cold.

The author of the book that this image comes from has won many awards. She has won a Newbery Honor four times, a Caldecott Honor for the book that this image is from, and is the current National Ambassador for Young People's Literature.

This girl misses Mama, but Grandma says, Your mama's gonna be coming on home soon. Mama moved to Chicago for a job. What is the job Mama says she will be doing while she is gone?

I'm a day late with this week's question for the #PBIDchallenge because we were home for a snow day! We got a lot of snow, and now it is supposed to get windy and COLD. Temperatures are forecast to be below zero from today until Friday and could get as low -30°. Everyone in Wisconsin is going to need to dress warm, maybe like the people in this week's image.

Week 13 PBID Question

We've had a little snow here and there this fall, but it has all melted. Until this past weekend, that is. Now it looks like everything will be snow-covered until spring. We've entered the season of hats and mittens, boots and snow pants, and hopefully some hot chocolate every once in a while. Which leads us to this week's question. Last week many of you recognized the style of the illustration before you knew the answer. That's awesome! Maybe you thought, "That sort of looks like Buzz from Fly Guy, but Mr. W. said it wasn't Buzz. Who wrote the Fly Guy books? What other books has he written?" And that sent you on a search for other books by Tedd Arnold so you could find the answer.

Maybe you will do the same for this week's image. This illustrator's work is very distinctive. Matter of fact, there are several of this person's illustrations hanging in my office right now!
