Last week I mentioned that this is spring break week for my school, and since I'm not at school, I wasn't sure if there would be a #PBIDchallenge question. But there are other classes participating in the #PBIDchallenge from schools in other districts! They have been working hard on PBID questions this year, and they deserve a question this week.

Week 26 PBID Answer

Week 26 PBID Question

It's the middle of March, so it's certainly not the first day of school. (Although the first day of spring is right around the corner.) But even in the middle of the year there can be a first day of school. Like for Molly.

Molly lived by her grandmother who gave great advice. Even though Molly was the shortest student in first grade, her grandmother said, "Walk as proudly as you can and the world will look up to you." But then Molly had to say goodbye to grandma and her friends and move to a new town.

That means Molly has a first day. Not the first day of school, but the first day in a new school. This picture shows Molly on her first day at her new school.

When Molly moved to a new school, there was a classmate who called her names and made fun of her. What was the name of that classmate (who learned a very important lesson)?

This week's PBID challenge question features one dapper looking fellow. Top hat, black suit, black bow tie ... a person might think that tiger is going to the opera at a super-fancy theater or something. Maybe he is. After all, he is a proper gentleman living in a city of other proper animals that always mind their manners. But things aren't always what they seem.

Week 24 PBID Answer

Week 24 PBID Question

There are so many great picture books, but in my opinion, the best picture books are the ones where you notice new things each time you read them. There's always something new, and it's especially those little details that have been there forever but suddenly surprise you after already reading the book 100 times that make the book stand out.

Take, for example, this week's image for the Picture Book Identification Challenge. I have read this book so many times in the last 25 years, but I never noticed a small detail in this exact image. Look at how those flowers are all wilting. They're falling over like they're dying and all falling away from that cute character. I never noticed that until today.

On to Week 22 of the Picture Book Identification Challenge, and this week features all the letters of the ... OH, NO!!! It's a disaster of alphabetic proportions! My goodness, look at that pile up of letters!

Whew! All of the letters had their parents or an aunt or uncle come to take care of them, and everyone is going to be okay. Despite that dramatic pile up of letters, there are only a few small boo-boos. Speaking of boo-boos, here's the Week 22 question.

It's hard to believe we have already completed 20 weeks of the Picture Book Identification Challenge. TWENTY WEEKS! I'm looking forward to all the questions coming up in the future! How about you?

Before we get to this week's picture and question, let me take a moment to welcome some new visitors. Week 20 PBID Question

Last week it was FREEZING cold here in Wisconsin, so our picture was a young girl and her father all bundled up to keep warm on a winter day. This week continues the theme of cold weather, only this girl and her grandmother stayed inside during the cold.

The author of the book that this image comes from has won many awards. She has won a Newbery Honor four times, a Caldecott Honor for the book that this image is from, and is the current National Ambassador for Young People's Literature.

This girl misses Mama, but Grandma says, Your mama's gonna be coming on home soon. Mama moved to Chicago for a job. What is the job Mama says she will be doing while she is gone?

I'm a day late with this week's question for the #PBIDchallenge because we were home for a snow day! We got a lot of snow, and now it is supposed to get windy and COLD. Temperatures are forecast to be below zero from today until Friday and could get as low -30°. Everyone in Wisconsin is going to need to dress warm, maybe like the people in this week's image.
