Help Readers Love
Once students can read, what can teachers do to foster a love of reading? First and foremost we need to get the right books into students’ hands. In this session, Brian will share numerous titles that reach out from their pages and grab students’ attention as well as creative (and simple) student activities for the classroom, school, and home.

Books for the Content Areas
We teachers have said it for years: Books can take you places! Pictures books and novels, fiction and nonfiction, all can be used to jumpstart your content area lessons. Activate prior knowledge and introduce new information, but most importantly, engage students in your lessons right from the start. Brian will share titles that do the trick and content area lesson ideas that can be applied to other books as well.

Books That Make a Difference
All readers can quickly identify the books that made a difference in their lives. This session presents the titles that made a difference in Brian’s life and the lives of his students. Hear the books and hear the stories of how they worked their magic. Attendees will leave motivated to make a difference in their students’ lives and equipped with the titles to do just that.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Not Just For Athletes Anymore
What do readers want to do after finishing a great book? (Here’s a clue: It has nothing to do with book reports.) They want to tell someone! These activities give your school’s readers a voice, not only in their classrooms and school, but in their city, state, country, and world. This presentation outlines numerous ideas for extra-curricular literature groups such as Mock Newbery and Mock Caldecott Committees and Middle Grade Book Clubs. These ideas easily adapt to classrooms as well.
